Welcome to the issue of Food waste

An oversight on food waste around the globe.

Everyone talks about food waste, and the large-scale amounts of edible food that are wasted per year. But how large are the numbers really, and are the consumers really the problem, or is it the producers. Well, according to research in the Food Wastage: Causes, Impacts, and Solutions article from the Science Heritage Journal, around a third of the food produced for consumption is either lost or wasted. The global volume of edible food wastage per year is estimated at 1.3Gtonnes with the highest wasted commodities being cereals, fruits, meats, milk and eggs, and lastly, vegetables. Interestingly enough, when looking at the stats, the agriculture production is the area where the most food is wasted and thus it means that at the production and supply chain levels is where the greater problem is. For example, for cereals, around 2,000 million tons were wasted in the agriculture production compared to 500 million tons at the human consumption level. And so are humans the only problem to food waste, the simple answer is no, and that producers also play a massive role in this issue. I bet the news doesn't focus on this perspective.
