A Call for an initiative

Taking action through a proposal to Jessica Orangeo, the FIT food service director

As someone who is passionate about change, I've taken action and matter into my own hands by writing to the director of food services at FIT, Jessica Orangeo who works with Aramark, a food service company. I've written a proposal to implement a system where the dining hall can track how many students purchase or eat at the dining hall per day, to take steps and figure out the number of meals that are usually eaten per day, and to then cut back in the levels of production to ultimately reach the goal of reducing food waste. The objective is that this can creative initiatives with FIT students spreading this letter, so that it can educate students on their lack of understanding of how their decisions contribute to food waste. As well as potentially reaching out to President Brown, who can address the issue and send out a message on how FIT will be changing policies to reduce food waste to better comply with NY State Food Donation Law and to get students to reduce food waste outside of the dining hall through suggestions. Personally, I hope that Orangeo will care enough to talk to her staff, and if not, it is the hands of us, FIT students to get word out and make a change.
